Had a tip-off from Barry in Dewsbury about a possible sighting on the Meltham road. Not always reliable, Barry, but he sent a photograph and it looked legitimate so I went on the Saturday. Cold morning. Flask essential.
The shoe was exactly where Barry said — in a layby about half a mile past the garden centre, left side of the road. Left brogue. Black. Smart shoe, not a walking boot. Size eight. In reasonable condition considering the weather we'd been having. I've seen smart shoes before but they always make you think a bit. You don't lose a brogue by accident in the same way you might a trainer. I noted this without drawing conclusions. That's not what this is about.
Barry was pleased I'd confirmed it. I wrote him a full response. He's improving with his photography.
Flask of tea. Sandwiches on the wall. Conditions: cold.
