Right boot, Wessenden Moor

Wessenden Moor — Right Boot, Black

Holme Valley, West Yorkshire  ·  Shoe #270  ·  Conditions: clear, cool, some wind

Set off from the car park at Marsden at half seven. Good morning for it — cool, clear, the sort of day where you can see a long way. I was on the top path heading toward the reservoir when I spotted it about thirty yards off the path, tucked against a tussock of grass.

Right boot. Black — very weathered, the leather gone a sort of dark grey. The sole was intact but the upper had cracked across the toe. I estimated it had been there at least one full winter, probably two. You can tell by the way the leather goes. I noted all of this carefully.

I don't often see boots this far up on the moor. Trainers occasionally. But a proper leather boot up here, fully weathered — that's a different matter. I sat with it for a while. The wind picks up on Wessenden so I kept my jacket on. Had my flask and a couple of rounds of corned beef. Took eleven photographs. Seven came out. Pleased with three of them in particular.

Conditions were good for the time of year. A crackin' morning.

Hello. I'm afraid I can't read what this says. Google translate has indicated something about a shop. I won't be visiting the shop but thank you for stopping by. Best wishes, Keith.
