Meltham Moor — Left Boot, Moorland

Meltham, West Yorkshire  ·  Shoe #248  ·  Conditions: warm, sunny, some haze

A straightforward one, this, in terms of location. Up on the moor above Meltham on a warm Saturday in July. I go up there fairly regularly — it's an easy drive from home and the walking's good. Left boot. Brown leather, walking style, one lace missing. Size ten. Sitting on its side, which I noted. Had been there a fair while — some moss starting on the upper.

I sat with it for twenty minutes or so. Crackin' spot — you can see right across the valley on a clear day. Flask conditions were excellent. I'd brought egg and cress and a couple of biscuits. Sat on a flat rock. The sun were warm. I took seven photographs. I'll be honest — they didn't come out. The light were against me. I've noted the location carefully in the field book so I know where to go back if I want another attempt.

Sometimes that's how it goes. The shoe was real. It were a lovely morning. That's enough.
